Swindon

Situated in a pivotal position on the M4 corridor, just over an hour from London and within easy reach of the South East, the Midlands and the West Country.

 

A new dual carriageway route north from Junction 15 of the M4 has further improved Swindon's accessibility by road and paved the way for a building boom.

The fourth highest GVA (Gross Value Added) in the UK after Inner London, West Berkshire and Edinburgh. (GVA represents the income generated by businesses, out of which is paid salaries, capital investments and financial charges, before arriving at a profit figure. A high GVA is a good indicator of a buoyant economy).

Since 1984, the population of Swindon has increased by 16%, with working age people making up 63.5% of the total population.

The number of VAT-registered businesses based in the town between 2000 and 2004 rose by 4.18% - above the national average of 3.53%.

A quarter of jobs in the area are in financial and business services.

Home to the National Trust - the body responsible for protecting special places in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, including over 300 historic homes and gardens - which relocated from London.

Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with excellent access to the Cotswolds and Marlborough Downs.

The Great Western Designer Outlet Village - the largest in Europe, is situated in the heart of the town centre.
