The Eden Project
Who they are
Located in St Austell, Cornwall, the Eden
Project consists of two large biomes forming the world's largest
greenhouse which houses plants from all over the world.
What they do
The Eden project is working towards the
understanding and implementation of sustainable development
providing a gateway into the world of plants and people. Since its
opening in March 2001 it has attracted over one million visitors
every year. Its success is now leading to further developments
which include an education centre. There are also plans to create a
third semi arid biome. The Eden Project has incorporated renewable
energy by having solar photovoltaics and a biomass boiler. The Eden
Project has been funded by the South West RDA.
The project is one of the country's leading
tourist attractions and is also a leading partner in international
research and development. The Eden Foundation is supporting
programmes in scientific areas such as, medical, meteorological,
geological and biotechnology providing technical expertise and
micro-climate study locations on one site.
