Connectivity
The knowledge economy is characterised by
innovation and a high dependence on Information Technology.
In the UK as a whole, knowledge workers have increased from 31%
in 1984 to a forecast figure of 45% by 2014 (Source Working
Futures 2004-2014). The South West has excellent connectivity
which is improving all the time. For example, Cornwall's broadband
coverage is 99% higher than any other rural part of the UK and its
broadband penetration is 46% compared to a national figure of 31%.

significant wired community, with people able to work from the end
of a telephone line in even the remotest parts of the county. Since
2002, the Cornish economy has benefited from around £100 million of
new output as a result of the increased broadband coverage.
